Minecraft Roof Generator

Plan a gable or hip roof for any building footprint. Set the width, depth and height, switch styles, then follow the layer-by-layer chart from eaves to ridge.

Why use a generated block pattern?

A roof is not one shrinking rectangle repeated upward the same way in every direction. A gable roof pulls in from two sides only; a hip roof pulls in from all four. This tool calculates each layer for both styles.

Enter the building width and depth at eave level.
Choose gable or hip and set the roof height.
Start at layer 1 (the eaves) and work up to the ridge.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between gable and hip?

A gable roof slopes on two opposite sides and stays open at the two gable ends. A hip roof slopes on all four sides and closes in on every edge.

What does roof thickness control?

In Outline / shell mode it sets how many blocks thick the sloped roof surface is. In Filled / solid mode the roof is a solid mass and thickness has no effect.

Does the ridge come out even?

Yes. The generator centers every layer, so a gable roof ends in a straight ridge line and a hip roof closes to a small peak.
